Bazarla

IBAN validator

This free tool checks whether a bank account number (IBAN) is correctly formatted. Enter an IBAN and the tool computes the check digits with the international mod-97 algorithm and shows the result (valid/invalid) and the country code. It helps catch a typo before you send a payment.

Result

Only the format is checked, not whether the account exists.

How it works

The check is based on the ISO 13616 standard: the first four characters of the IBAN are moved to the end, letters are replaced by numbers (A=10 … Z=35), and if the remainder of dividing the resulting large number by 97 equals 1, the IBAN is valid. This checks only the format and check digits, not whether the account actually exists.

Example

Enter an Azerbaijani IBAN like AZ21NABZ00000000137010001944 and the tool computes the check digits, shows it's valid, and identifies the country as AZ (Azerbaijan). An Azerbaijani IBAN is 28 characters: AZ + 2 check digits + a 4-letter bank code + 20 alphanumeric characters. Georgian IBANs (GE, 22 characters) are supported too.
