Gonio is a Black Sea resort village south of Batumi, close to the Turkish border. The area includes Kvariati, known for its beach and clear water, and Sarpi with the Sarpi border crossing into Turkey. Its best-known landmark is the Gonio-Apsaros fortress. The housing market is seasonal: in summer, flats and cottages by the day are in highest demand, the rest of the year people rent monthly or buy. Many new aparthotels are being built along St Andrew the First-Called Highway, including projects by international hotel brands. Resale flats have a median asking price of about USD 1,600 per m2, new projects more.
