Word counter
This free word counter counts the words, characters, sentences and paragraphs in your text in real time. It handles the region's alphabets correctly — Georgian (Mkhedruli), Azerbaijani Latin (ə, ğ, ı, ş), Armenian and Cyrillic — so it works for text written in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. It's useful for essays, articles, listing descriptions, social posts, SMS and SEO copy.

SMS: GSM-7 — 160 characters (153 per part); with Georgian, Armenian, Cyrillic or ə/ş/ğ/ı it's Unicode — 70 (67 per part). Carriers may differ.
The calculation runs in your browser.
How it works
The counter splits text into words on whitespace (punctuation-only fragments are not counted as words), counts all characters (with and without spaces; an emoji counts as one), detects sentences by full stops/question/exclamation marks and the Armenian full stop «։», and paragraphs by blank lines. It also shows an approximate reading time (~200 words per minute), the number of SMS parts, and which alphabets the text uses. Everything runs in your browser and the text is never sent anywhere.
Example
The text 'Hello world. How are you?' has 5 words, 2 sentences and 25 characters, and fits in one standard SMS (160 characters). The Armenian 'Բարև աշխարհ։ Ինչպե՞ս ես։' has 4 words and 2 sentences, but as Unicode only 70 characters fit in one SMS.
Frequently asked questions
Is my text stored?
No — everything is processed in your browser and nothing is sent.
How are characters counted?
Both totals are shown — with and without spaces.
Why does an SMS in Georgian, Armenian or Azerbaijani fit only 70 characters?
The standard SMS encoding (GSM-7) has no Georgian, Armenian or Cyrillic letters, nor Azerbaijani ə, ğ, ı, ş. Such text is sent as Unicode (UCS-2): 70 characters in a single SMS and 67 per part of a long message. Text using only GSM-7 characters gets 160 (153 per part).
Does it count Georgian and Armenian text?
Yes. Letters of each alphabet are shown separately, and the Armenian full stop «։» is recognised as a sentence end.
How is reading time calculated?
At roughly 200 words per minute. It is an average estimate; real speed depends on the reader.
Is there a limit?
No practical limit; you can paste long texts.
Is the tool free?
Yes — completely free.
