Oracle's stock has declined nearly 50 percent since June 1, dropping below $133 in trading sessions. The sharp selloff has significantly affected cofounder Larry Ellison's wealth, which has fallen approximately $125 billion since early June, causing him to slide from second to eighth place on the Forbes billionaires ranking. Ellison, who holds roughly 40 percent of Oracle, lost $8 billion in a single trading day and now holds $175.2 billion in wealth.
Investor concerns center on Oracle's substantial capital expenditure plans, with the company targeting approximately $70 billion in the current fiscal year for artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure development, potentially increasing by an additional $25 billion. Melius Research analysts caution that major customers like OpenAI and Anthropic may demand more computing power than anticipated. S&P Global has downgraded Oracle's credit rating. The company's market value has fallen from its September peak of $877.1 billion to approximately $383 billion.
