The United States Development Finance Corporation has formalized a second loan agreement valued at $25 million with PACE Group to advance the construction of the second berth at Batumi's new maritime port. The announcement, made through the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, marks a significant expansion of the country's critical trade infrastructure along the Trans-Caspian corridor.
The new financing will enable the completion of the port facility's second berth, substantially boosting its capacity to handle bulk cargo operations. Upon completion, the Port of Batumi will increase its annual throughput by an additional one million tons, positioning Georgia as an increasingly vital hub for regional trade. The project will also reinforce essential infrastructure and enhance the safety and efficiency of commerce flowing through this strategically important gateway.
This latest agreement builds upon a robust partnership between DFC and PACE Group established in 2020, when the corporation provided $50 million in financing to develop and construct the original Port of Batumi terminal. That initial investment demonstrated the viability and importance of the project, paving the way for continued collaboration.
The Development Finance Corporation, the U.S. government's international investment agency, is tasked with delivering measurable economic returns for American taxpayers while simultaneously promoting sustainable economic growth among U.S. allies and partners. Through strategic investments like the Batumi port expansion, the DFC supports infrastructure that strengthens regional connectivity and advances shared economic interests.
