The attorney representing Aleko Elisashvili has announced plans to pursue litigation against Georgia's Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili. Giorgi Rekhviashvili stated that he will seek compensation for damages to his client's honor, dignity, and business reputation, asserting that Papuashvili has made false and defamatory statements.

According to Rekhviashvili, Speaker Papuashvili has falsely claimed that Elisashvili purchased assault rifles for criminal purposes. The attorney characterized these allegations as slander and direct pressure on the judiciary and prosecution, arguing they violate the presumption of innocence and may themselves constitute a criminal offense. Rekhviashvili contended that Papuashvili's ongoing campaign of demonization against Elisashvili represents a pattern of baseless accusations designed to harm his client.

Rekhviashvili expressed concern about political influence over Georgia's judicial system and committed to exhausting all available domestic legal remedies to defend Elisashvili's reputation. While acknowledging skepticism regarding the prospects for justice under current conditions, the attorney emphasized his professional obligation to pursue all legal avenues.

Rekhviashvili concluded that although immediate relief may not be forthcoming, he believes accountability will eventually be imposed on high-ranking officials who disseminate false information to damage innocent people and undermine judicial independence. The case highlights ongoing tensions regarding freedom of speech, judicial independence, and political pressure within Georgia's legal system.
