Being intellectual is not about dressing showily or walking with a fashionable hat. Intellectuals are the brain of the people. The people did not raise us to get a well-paid job after finishing our education, to sit in restaurants in the evenings, or to play cards and dominoes in so-called libraries. Those who live this life are not intellectuals, but intellectual riffraff, said Johan Vilhelm Snellman, a prominent representative of the new generation of Finnish intellectuals.
